This blog is on the question what does it mean to be an American in the 21st century and do all American have access to the American Dream? In my mind being an American in the 21st Century is an honor. Everyone all over the world knows the perks of being an American. When I went to Canada they would ask me how cool it was being an American. Immigrant come from other countries to America so they can have freedom. In some parts of the world they have nothing and would do anything to have what we have in American. I've seen movies and pictures and it's sad to see all the pain people go through. They have no home and no food. the people live on the streets and eat whatever they find. If they could move away and find a way to live they would do it. Living in this century instead of living in the early nineteen hundreds is amazing. There have been a lot of new inventions in this generation that weren't around back then. Some of the new inventions have been the computer and the cell phone. If some people today didn't have those items they would go crazy. If scientist went back through all the new discoveries over the past century there have been a ton. In the next century their will be even more new inventions. For instance a huge monitoring system that talks and controls your hole house.
All Americans have equal access the American dream. It doesn't mater about their gender or their race anyone can do anything they want. When we were little we each had our own dream and tried to accomplish it. If a woman wants to be the president she can and if a man wants to be a fashion designer he can. American can do whatever they want when they want. In the Slave era their were conditions and no questions asked either the slaves did what they were told or they were killed. Now their are no rules and hopefully form now on everyone will not be forced to do something they don't want to do. Everyone can live their American Dream.

ryan it's great to hear that someone feels that America is great. I feel the same way as you. Although we have our own problems with hunger, our system is set up to give oppurtunity to aid the less fortunate. It's nice to not take an arrogant approach and be able to help the less fortunate in our great country and all over the world. We are almost spoiled to the point where I witness people complaining about things that other's don't have or will never be able to obtain. We have the oppurtunities to chase our dreams and pursue happiness. We have the oppurtunity to get an education. We can do what we want and when we want and how we want without being controlled. I'm not taking anything for granted. It's great to live in such a fruitful country. The American dream is still alive and we are living it.
ReplyDeleteI am also very honored to be living in America. I think it is a great nation with a lot of opportunities. I like how you said you would rather be living now than many years ago. But,that could be because you were raised during this century? It is all really what you are used to. You say that all Americans have equal access to the American Dream. Do they really? Do they all have access to the same American Dream or to their own dream? Because I do agree that everyone can access their own dream. But, are you saying that all Americans have access to the same American Dream? If so, that is hard for me to accept. I just think that it is very difficult that to happen. If Bill Gates has a dream to own another business and a homeless person has a dream to own a business, do they really have equal access to achieving this dream? I don't think so, but I would like to hear your take on it.
ReplyDeleteI feel privileged to be here and would never want to go anywhere else. I always feel a sense of security when you turn on the news and after a huge disaster or a missing person, how we come together to try to support and make things right for one another. However I didn’t realize that people thought it was necessarily cool to be an American. I have always heard all the jokes about how fat and lazy Americans are and never the good things. I also think this is best time to be living and am excited to see what all the different things my daughter will rely on that we thought of as luxuries. I too believe that the American Dream is obtainable for anyone because that dream differs for everyone. I think people, even though at times make their dreams unrealistic, know boundaries and what would be something they could actually accomplish.
ReplyDeleteI agree that anyone can do what they want within the limits of the law but not everyone can attain their America dream. So access is limited for some. If someone has a dream of becoming President but has no money he or she will not become President. But someone with a boat loads of money or comes from a family that has a lot of political pull then they have a greater chance. That is just one example but there are many more. So not everyone has a fair shake at the American dream. But you do make a good argument and I agree partly with you.
