Who is the Indian Killer

This blog is on who i think the Indian Killer is. The Indian killer kept me on my toes the entire story. After reading each chapter it left me in suspense. If their wasn't a mystery to this book then it wouldn't have been as good. When i was reading through the story i always thought the killer was john. The reason why i thought it was him is he had some type of mental illness. He had schizophrenia he was hearing a voice in his telling him to kill people. The voice he heard could have been father Duncan. Also how John cut most of the people out of his life. He forgot about his parents and friends. Whenever his parents tried to contact him he wouldn't answer his phone. Whenever they tried to go to his house he was never home. He was always the outcast looking for a place to fit in. John always wondered what it would be like if he grew up on the reservation. If he would have been raised by Indian parents and learned the ways of a tribe then he might have been better off. Another character in the story i thought it might be was professor Mather. I was thinking he was tired of hearing students criticize his teaching skills. He could have been the one getting revenge on the critics. Whenever i was finishing the last chapter i was very disappointed. I was disappointed because the author never said who the Indian killer was. Does that mean the reader chooses who the killer is. If the author would have said who the killer was at the end the ending would have been better.

  1. I agree with you saying that the end of the book would have been better if the loose ends were all tied up and every question throughout the book was answered. When reading I was also captivated by the stunning mystery in the book and looked forward to reading each new chapter. As each chapter concluded I wanted to skip ahead to see what would happen with that aspect of the book. I liked the authors writing style in this aspect but the open ended style of conclusion I did not like.

  2. The Indian Killer also kept me thinking throughout the entire book. I was always wondering what his or her next move was going to be and who might be killed. I also thought the killer was John. I thought the way Alexie made his character out to be, with all the problems, that he was just setting him up to be the killer. On the other hand, I guess Alexie could have just wanted everyone to assume that John was the killer. I guess it could be others, but we will never really know. I like how it is left up for interpretation because it will make for good class discussion. However, it would be kinda nice to have a definite answer on who the killer was!

  3. I think the most logical person is Reggie as he was much more violent that John. John also only talked about wanting to one white person, but Reggie was pretty open about beating people up, blinding them. I'd say if you can do that with witnesses, you could sure do worse with no one around. I think the purpose of the book is for us to see how all the collection do damage. John loses his identity due to incorrect information. I think that is why he is so angry in the end. I think that is why he goes after Wilson because he is the one man to blame for unauthentic Native American History. That is why he brands him in the end. He wants everyone to know who he is and why.
I think I'm glad it ends the way it does because it made me think about it much more than if we knew the answer.
